Putting the Pieces TogetherI now had control of my continent, except for an Egyptian tundra city (and I didn’t want to fight my only friend).
As you can see, Railroad was due in 3, my plan was to then research Sci Method, Communism (so I could swap to State Property, adopted in 1740), then head for Biology so I could start building some Size-25 cities. I identified the cities that had enough farmland to grow that big, and had to irrigate over a couple villages in the process. I also built a few more cities to fill gaps, including this gem of a city site (too bad I couldn't have settled here earlier):
Otherwise, it was a pretty steady march to space. I did have some excitement as I pushed as many missionaries as I could into Asoka’s cities, hoping to get him to convert from Buddhism (he was the only AI with Open Borders who hadn’t founded his own religion). Unfortunately it didn’t pan out, as he adopted Free Religion in 1830. To break up the boredom, I decided to invade Exile Island in 1866, the Longbows didn’t stand much of a chance vs. bombers and gunships. @
Tanks were pretty effective as well, as I took Saladin out the same turn.
I had also just started another GA, to hurry my production along. I was able to complete Apollo and 3 Gorges during the GA.
I got a Great Scientist in Beijing in 1896, who I used to speed Fusion, which gave me another Great Engineer. While I couldn’t use him to rush a part, I was able to rush a Lab in Seville. I had gone from the Elevator to building Docking Bay, and didn’t realize I had forgotten to build the lab, so rushing the lab took a couple turns off the completion date for the Docking Bay.
I had a rather uneventful launch in 1921AD, as Life Support, the Docking Bay, and my last Thruster all completed.
This also shows my largest cities, only 3 home-grown reached 25, and 5 of the captured ones did. I also was frustrated with my XP points, I actually had a Cossack at 25XP, but I upgraded him to a Gunship and his XP reset to 10! So my best XP was only 16. My final (in-game) score was 28,198 (Caesar). Final
Of course, this is pending any points for Finish
Date. Now that I've completed the game, I'm sure that getting 150 in each
category was quite possible, it would basically have taken a strong military
push early, (Spain and Arabia could both have been taken by 1500AD), and then a
push for Domination, the southern continent in particular was very backward and
could have been blitzkrieged. Great game, I liked the scoring concept as a
change of pace. Thanks again to our sponsors and everyone who played! |
